HOW DID THE FRISCO COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER COME TO BE?
The Frisco Community Newsletter was founded
in 2001
by Matt
Lafata, a six-year former Frisco (Texas)
City Council member. Matt knew that in a fast-growing city such as ours that communication would be crucial as new residents moved here, resulting in more groups, organizations, places of worship and activity in their respective neighborhoods.
Even after he was termed out on the Frisco City
Council in 2008 Matt was still committed to making sure the newsletter
got produced every week, knowing that Frisco charity organizations and other non-profits relied on the
publication to be their "messenger" to the tens of thousands of people
the newsletter reached.
Matt has held a full-time job in the human resources (HR)
systems strategic consulting industry at a company based in Frisco the last 7 years, which meant countless evenings and weekends were spent putting the newsletter together with his wife.
In
2009 Matt's wife Erika, who has an extensive 23-year
background in media, left the corporate world & took over the newsletter operations so that he could focus on his role at the
company he has worked full-time for since 2004, HRchitect.
Together, they share 6 children between them - 5 boys and 1 girl, including 2 in college all the way down to 2nd grade.
FOR THE COMMUNITY, BY THE COMMUNITY
The Frisco Community Newsletter exists to serve non-profit charity
organizations, schools, & places of worship help get the
word out about their activities, news, & events at no charge to them.
The newsletter is truly FOR
the community and BY
the community because almost all its content is submitted by the many eyes and ears of Frisco who want others to know about what's going
on with their respective organizations.
After the newsletter is email blasted each week to subscribers who want to be
"in the know about all things Frisco," it's posted on this website for anyone to access.
Think of the newsletter as a massive, grass-roots electronic community bulletin board and feel free to be a contributor to help keep others in Frisco in the loop about charity groups & activities you know about and/or involved with.
